Annapolis, Md.–Navy senior outside linebacker and co-captain D.J. Palmore has been named to the Butkus Award Watch List. The Butkus Award is given to the nation’s top collegiate linebacker.
Palmore started in all 12 games he played in last fall and led the Mids in sacks (six) and tackles for a loss (11.5), while finishing fourth in tackles (56). Palmore also broke up four passes, was in on two QB hurries, forced a fumble and blocked a kick.
Navy opens the 2017 campaign on Friday, Sept. 1 at Florida Atlantic and will return home the following week to host American Athletic Conference foe Tulane. The Mids will also play host to Cincinnati Sept. 2, Air Force (Oct. 7), UCF (Oct. 21) and SMU (Nov. 11). The annual Army-Navy Game presented by USAA will be played on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
