PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced a number of kickoff times and television designations for the 2017 football season.
Wednesday’s announcement includes the kickoff times for much of The American’s Thursday and Friday primetime games on ESPN networks. The prime time package begins Friday, Sept. 15, as USF hosts Illinois on ESPN and Temple hosts Massachusetts on ESPNU.
The American also announced four games that will be televised on CBS Sports Network – USF at San Jose State (Aug. 26, 7:30 p.m.), Louisiana-Monroe at Memphis (Aug. 31, 8 p.m.), Virginia Tech at East Carolina (Sept. 16, 3:30 p.m.), and Tulane at Memphis (Oct. 27, 8 p.m.).
Start times for The American’s remaining Thursday-night games on ESPN networks are expected to be made in the coming weeks. The remaining start times and television designations for the 2017 season will be made on a weekly basis through the season as part of the conference’s 12-day selection process. The most up-to-date schedule, with television designations, is available at TheAmerican.org.
The American is the only FBS conference that returns its 2016 players of the year on offense (USF QB Quinton Flowers), defense (UCF LB Shaquem Griffin) and special teams (Memphis KR Tony Pollard). The American is coming off a 2016 season that produced three teams with at least 10 wins (USF, Temple, Tulsa) and had a league-record 15 players chosen in the 2017 NFL Draft.
