Week 4 Service Academy Football Predictions

U.S. Flag

The Mids are back in action and traveling to Houston while Army looks to carry its momentum after destroying UConn last week.

Week Results: 1-1. Air Force lost a game they never should have after the Aggies of Utah State ran down a double-digit Falcons lead.
Closest Pick: I only won one of the two games. I was close in predicting Army to score 48 (they finished with 52), but didn’t expect the Black Knights to turn it off defensively like they did. I eventually missed the correct total by 25 points. Must do better!
Season Results: 5-2 (71.4%). Last week I was at (80%).

Army vs. Miami Ohio – This just looks like a mismatch in terms of offensive intent. Army will run the ball all over the RedHawks and I wouldn’t be shocked to see an almost 40:20 split in terms of time of possession. The Black Knights will turn that clock dominance into points and should win by at least a couple of scores. Army 45, Miami Ohio 21.

Air Force vs. Florida Atlantic – Head coach Willie Taggart brings an FAU team to Colorado Springs that is loaded with athletes and more than capable of throwing the ball around. This should be an interesting clash of styles as the Falcons and their triple-option will try to control the tempo of the game against a squad that wants to move the ball up and down the field much faster. The Falcons’ defense simply has to be better after giving up a disastrous 628 yards of total offense last week. They will be better, but it won’t quite be enough. FAU 35, Air Force 31.

Navy @ Houston – To say Navy is struggling is an understatement. Neither the Mids nor the Cougars are anything like the teams that battled for control of the AAC just a few years ago, but Houston at least looks to have found some form in its 2-1 start. Sitting at 0-2 for the first time since 2012 and having been outscored 72-10 in the process, the Mids need to correct mistakes fast. Better red zone execution would be a great start and this team is too talented to not win games eventually in 2021. This game comes a little too soon for that, however. Houston 34, Navy 21
