ARMY ENDS 14-YEAR-STREAK; DEFEATS NAVY 21-17

Army-Navy 2016

The Army Black Knights defeated Navy for the first time since 2001 with a 21-17 win over Navy on Saturday in Baltimore. The Black Knight jumped out to a 14-0 first half lead and then held on to pick up the huge victory.

The Black Knights got two touchdowns from fullback Andy Davidson in the first half, one a 1-yard run with 4:23 left in the first quarter and another 1-yard TD with 7:12 to play in the first half. The Blacks headed to the locker room with a 14-0 lead. In the second half, Navy took advantage of an Army fumble and quarterback Zach Abey scored on a 1-yard run with 11:23 left in the third to narrow the Army lead to 14-7. The Mids added a Bennett Moehring 28-yard field goal with 3:59 left in the third quarter to close the Army lead to 14-10.

Abbey broke loose for a 41-yard touchdown run that put Navy up 17-14 with 12:42 left in the game.

However, Army, which appeared to be in meltdown mode, got things together and quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw’s nine-yard scoring run put the Black Knights up 21-17 with 6 minutes to play. Army then forced Navy to punt and was able to run the clock down without allowing another Navy possession.

After the game, the jubilant cadets from West Point rushed the playing field and joined the teams singing their alma maters. It was the first time in 15 years that Army had sung second.
